CSA - Community supported Agriculture

Community Supported Agriculture, most commonly referred to as a CSA or farm share program, involves members of the community buying a set number of “shares” of a farmer’s harvest at the beginning of the season and subsequently receiving a portion of the harvest each week. Think of it like a magazine subscription, but instead of receiving articles, members receive a share of ripe, delicious, seasonal vegetables each week. Generally customers pay up front during the winter months, at a time of year when most farmers don’t have a lot of income coming in. This allows farmers to purchase seed and other supplies during the slower winter months when most of the planning is accomplished. Members of a CSA receive the best of what’s in season - it’s a seasonal eating adventure. CSA shares from previous growing seasons are pictured above, and flower share photos are pictured below.
